Let’s see how much you actually know about your amazing eyes.
Here are some true and false questions about your eyes and the world of vision.
1) 10% of our waking hours are spent with our eyes actually closed.
True: Believe it or not, but we actually spend that much time blinking.
2) People with blue eyes have a higher tolerance for alcohol
True: Two studies concluded that light-eyed people are more likely to consume more alcohol, and therefore become more dependent on alcohol than dark eyed people.
3) Your eyesight can actually get better with age.
True: Although this is true, it is not always good news. It could be the result of pre-cataract vision when your distance vision becomes better for a period of time.
4) Our eyes become strained and tired when we work at a computer because of the light from the screen.
False: The real cause for eyestrain is we are just not blinking enough. The rule is 20/20/20. Look away 20 feet from the laptop or computer for 20 seconds, every 20 minutes, and blink. This helps to refresh your eyes and prevent eye strain.
5) Tying your tie too tightly can lead to glaucoma in men.
True: According to the BBC, a study was conducted at the NY Ear & Eye Infirmary finding that intra-ocular pressure increased in men wearing their ties too tightly.
6) Scorpions have as many as 12 eyes.
True: Although true, they still don’t see very well.
7) Sitting too close to a TV will give you square eyes.
False: Of course not, silly.
