When summer arrives each year, it becomes very tempting to spend every possible moment outside in the sun whether it’s by the pool, beach, or on a patio. It’s important to take the proper precautions to ensure that your eyes are protected. Just as you remember to put on sunscreen (we hope you do!), the same amount of thought should be placed on how to protect your vision during the summer months.

Here are 5 simple tips to help you:
- Choose sunglasses that have 100% UV protection – don’t just go for style – check to ensure they can provide your eyes with the protection they need.
- Going swimming? To avoid red eyes when you get out the water, wear goggles to protect your eyes from the chemical irritation that can occur from the chlorine.
- Stand far away from fireworks – If you plan to handle or be near fireworks, ensure that you’re wearing proper eye protection or you stand a safe distance away. Each year, thousands of people are injured from firework-related incidents.
- Wear a hat – A wide-brimmed hat will protect your eyes and face from the sun’s hot rays.
- Summer is a popular time to undergo home renovations – keep your eyes covered with professional eye protection to avoid flying debris from entering your eyes.
The summer season not only brings great weather and the opportunity for fun, but also creates many possible eye hazards. Ensure that you protect your eyes so that all your summer memories are good ones!
