You’ve probably heard many of these terms before, but do actually know what they mean and what part of the eye they refer to? Here is a quick and easy guide to help you brush up on your knowledge of the anatomy of the eye:
Iris: The coloured part of your eye that regulates how much light enters
Lens: Changes the distance of the eye to help focus on objects at various distances
Cornea: A clear covering over the iris
Pupil: The black circle in the middle of your iris
Sclera: The white part surrounding the iris
Conjunctiva: A thin layer that covers the front of the eye
Vitreous: A clear gel that fills most of your eye
Retina: Light-sensitive layer of tissue, lining the inner surface of the eye
Choroid: Layers of blood vessels that lie between the retina and the sclera
Fovea: Located in the center of the retina, responsible for sharp, detailed vision
Optic Nerve: Sends signals from the eye to the different parts of the brain where the signals are interpreted into images
