It is completely normal to feel a little anxious about your LASIK surgery. Knowing what to expect may help to alleviate your nerves. Rest assured our physicians at OCC LASIK want to provide you with the best experience possible, which is why they will walk you through everything that will happen that day.
Prior to Surgery
There are two things that should happen before you have the surgery. The first is that you should arrange for someone to drive you home from our offices, as your vision will not be good enough to drive immediately afterward.
Secondly, our doctors can give you some medication that will help you to relax. You will be awake for the procedure, though you will not feel anything. If you feel especially anxious, be sure to communicate with one of our staff members so we can help you to feel calm and confident about the surgery.
LASIK Is Quick
The actual surgery typically only takes about 30 minutes. For most people, the procedure lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes on each eye. You will be lying on your back in a type of reclining chair in one of our exam rooms. Once the procedure begins, you may hear a clicking sound associated with the laser or machinery.
Because you are awake, the doctor will describe to you what he or she is doing. We use an advanced technology that the doctor will fully explain to you, and he or she will let you know what is happening with every movement. This will ensure that:
- There are no surprises during the surgery
- You feel comfortable with what is happening
- You have an open communication with your physician
Once Surgery Is Over
Immediately following the procedure, your eyes will be very sensitive to light. The doctor will take a close look at your eyes and do a thorough examination to make sure things are as they should be. If you are experiencing any minor pain, we can provide you eye drops and recommend some over-the-counter medication for minor pain relief. You may want to rub your eyes, but under no circumstances should you, as it could undo the procedure.
Our doctors at OCC LASIK take the utmost care to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable throughout your surgery. We will also equip you with the information you need to ensure you have a safe recovery.
