You have finally made the big decision to have LASIK surgery! Did you know that preparing for your LASIK surgery is equally as important as your surgeon’s preparation? The doctor and staff have carefully reviewed all your tests, asked all the necessary questions about your medical history, and discussed your expectations. They have conscientiously prepared everything so that you will achieve the very best results possible. Now it’s your turn to follow this check list and get ready for the big day.
Important Things to Do Prior to LASIK Surgery:
- Secure a driver to and from your surgery. You will not be able to drive on the day of your procedure.
- Wear warm and comfortable clothing and choose something that will not shed or send debris into the air.
- Avoid wearing any perfumes, lotions, after shave or anything with a strong scent.
- Plan to rest at home after your surgery for the remainder of the day.
- Be sure you have followed your surgeon’s direction and removed your contact lenses at the appropriate time before your surgery. In most cases, it is several weeks prior to your procedure. If you wear gas permeable lenses, it is probably a longer time. Contact lenses change the shape of your cornea and if you want the best results possible, it is essential that you follow the specific directives from your surgeon.
- Take the time to thoroughly cleanse your eyes, eye lashes and lids. If you normally wear makeup, be sure to remove all traces of eyeliner, mascara and eye shadow. Your eye area should be completely clean and free from bacteria and residue. This eyelid hygiene will ensure that there are no complications from infection. Sometimes your doctor will even prescribe a specialized daily regimen of eyelid cleansing along with an anti-biotic ointment for several days prior to your surgery.
Contact Dr. Armogan or Dr. Ali if you have any questions about these directions or anything else about your upcoming LASIK surgery.
Although they may seem like very simple instructions, they are an essential part of your preparation for your LASIK procedure, and can affect both your healing and your results. When the day finally arrives, we want you to relax in the knowledge that both you and OCC LASIK are completely prepared to ensure the best possible results.
